Aireon has selected ISA to support their business cases for space-based ADS-B initiatives.

By 2018, Aireon will provide the first truly global air traffic surveillance system using a space-based ADS-B network that makes it possible to extend visibility across the entire planet. Aireon will enable real-time transmission of ADS-B reports from equipped aircraft to Air Traffic Management automation platforms and Air Traffic Controllers in every Flight Information Region (FIR) throughout the world.

ISA provides business case support and modeling of operational and cost avoidance benefits for the introduction of space-based ADS-B. Operational benefits include fuel and aircraft direct operating cost savings due to reduced oceanic separation, as well as enhanced global flight tracking, enhanced search and rescue and improved tactical flow management. Operational benefits are produced using the RAMS Plus fast-time simulation tool to measure fuel and time benefits for reduced oceanic separation in the Atlantic and Pacific oceanic FIRs, as well as individual analysis for ANSPs around the world. The performance benefits are derived from reduced oceanic separations allowing flights to fly more efficient altitudes and wind-optimised routes.
